London Inclusion Sports Academy (LISA) is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, volunteers, participants, and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. We aim to comply fully with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, all relevant UK legislation, and best practice guidance for charities, sporting events, and work with children and vulnerable people.
We will provide a safe and inclusive environment for all, especially considering the needs of children, young people, and those with disabilities or additional needs.
2.1 Overall Responsibility
The Board of Trustees has overall responsibility for health and safety at LISA. They will ensure:
Appropriate resources are provided.
Policies are reviewed annually.
The organisation complies with statutory requirements.
2.2 Day-to-Day Management
The Health and Safety Lead (Operations Manager or delegated person) is responsible for:
Implementing this policy.
Conducting risk assessments.
Reporting incidents and near misses.
Ensuring staff and volunteers receive appropriate training.
2.3 All Staff and Volunteers
Everyone at LISA has a duty to:
Take reasonable care of their own and others’ health and safety.
Follow all safety procedures and instructions.
Report hazards, incidents, or unsafe practices promptly.

We will carry out regular risk assessments for:
Sports activities and events.
Venues used for training or events.
Transport of young people.
Volunteer and staff roles.
Findings will be recorded and acted upon. Risk assessments will:
Be reviewed annually or after incidents.
Pay particular attention to the needs of children and vulnerable participants.
Be tailored to inclusive sporting activities and live events.
As part of our work with children and young people:
All staff and volunteers are required to undergo enhanced DBS checks.
We maintain and regularly update a Safeguarding Policy.
We appoint a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) responsible for child protection concerns.
Staff and volunteers receive safeguarding training appropriate to their role.
Each activity or event will have a designated first aider.
First aid kits are available at all venues and checked regularly.
Emergency procedures (e.g., fire, injury) are displayed and briefed before sessions.
Accidents and incidents are recorded in an Accident Report Book and reported under RIDDOR if necessary.
Coaches and staff will adapt activities to meet the physical, sensory, and cognitive needs of all participants.
All equipment will be suitable, maintained, and safe for inclusive use.
Ratios of staff to participants will meet or exceed minimum recommended standards.
Additional support staff (e.g., carers or personal assistants) will be included in planning where needed.
For live or public events, we will:
Conduct site-specific risk assessments.
Ensure public liability insurance is in place.
Brief all staff and volunteers on emergency procedures and crowd management.
Collaborate with venue staff on fire safety, exits, and evacuation procedures.
Provide clear signage, accessible facilities, and ensure venues meet disability access standards.
Staff and volunteers will receive initial and ongoing training on:
Health and safety.
Safeguarding and child protection.
Risk awareness and emergency response.
Health and safety policies and updates will be communicated regularly through staff briefings and internal bulletins.
Health and safety procedures and incidents will be monitored monthly.
This policy will be reviewed annually or after any serious incident, legislative change, or significant organisational shift.
Feedback from staff, volunteers, and participants will inform improvements.
